Nine outstanding middle and high school students from the Arlington, Darrington and Lakewood School Districts were recognized April 25 by the Rotary Club of Arlington for making a difference in their respective schools. The Rotarians wanted to recognize students who stand out in different ways in their schools. The Rotary Club also donated $100 to a charity of the student’s choice.
Bayleigh Ivester, a junior at Arlington High School, is an excellent student with an incredible work ethic. “Bayleigh is one of those rare individuals who enlivens any room that she enters with her positive attitude,” said Arlington High School Teacher Greg Hurst. Bayleigh’s $100 contribution is being made to Courageous Connections equine therapy.
Darrington High School’s Allie Cochran has remarkable academic excellence and exemplary athletic leadership. “As a senior, Allie has consistently maintained top grades, showcasing her dedication to academic excellence,” said Darrington High School Teacher on Special Assignment Shawna Brown. Allie’s $100 contribution is being made to The NOAH Center.
Lakewood High School’s Leonardo Sandoval is an outstanding senior who has many accomplishments. “Leo is president of the school’s DECA club, a two-sport varsity athlete, and has won numerous awards for music,” said Lakewood High School Principal Jeanette Grisham. Leo’s $100 contribution is being made to the Save the Music foundation.
Rose Schmidt, a senior at Weston High School, approaches every task with a diligent and hardworking attitude. “Rose is an exemplary student whose kindness and compassion create a positive and inclusive atmosphere in the classroom,” said Weston High School Counselor Katy Brown. Rose’s $100 contribution is being made to The NOAH Center.
Ava Pater from Darrington K-8 is a valuable asset to her school community. “Ava demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence, sportsmanship, leadership, and is a role model for her peers,” said Darrington K-8 Teacher Melissa Cumming. Ava’s $100 contribution is being made to the Military Warriors Support Foundation.
Haller Middle School’s Lyla Morzelewski is actively involved in her school. Haller Principal Brooke Howell said, “Lyla is a person who lifts others up, encourages the discouraged and brightens every room she walks into.” Lyla’s $100 contribution is being made to OCD Washington.
Leila Plantilla is an amazing student and leader at Lakewood Middle School. “Leila works diligently to include students in student government and other activities as well as working to plan many of these events,” said Lakewood Middle School Principal Amanda Cote. Leila’s $100 contribution is being made to the American Heart Association.
Post Middle School’s Koryn Whitney is a kindhearted student, classmate and peer. “Koryn is a very charismatic young man, along with always showing respect, kindness and honesty,” said Tina Odenius, Post Middle School Attendance/Discipline Secretary. Koryn’s $100 contribution is being made to Save the Children.
Aidan McCurdy from the Stillaguamish Valley Learning Center is a remarkable student and a joy to teach. “Aidan consistently demonstrates a level of dedication and passion for learning that is truly commendable,” said Stillaguamish Valley Learning Center Math Teacher Rachel Manza. Aidan’s $100 contribution is being made to Forgotten Kingdom Animal Shelter.
