Arlington receives grant to improve safety conditions in schools
School Safety GrantArlington Public Schools’ Safety Committee has been awarded a grant from the Educational Service District (ESD) 113 Workers’ Compensation Trust to improve safety conditions in schools. The $5,000 grant will be used to pay for protective equipment for Special Education staff, step stools for classrooms across the district, and torsion bar replacements for cafeteria tables.

“Worker injury data and safety-awareness walkthroughs performed by committee members showed these areas as having the most potential to reduce injury for a small investment of funds,” said Executive Director of Operations, Brian Lewis.

The Safety Committee worked together in November and December of 2018 to write the application. The committee is comprised of certificated and classified staff from all schools and support buildings.

Arlington Public Schools has been a member of the ESD 113 Workers’ Compensation Trust since 2018. The trust provides workers’ compensation insurance services to 47 school districts across Washington state – including Arlington – and helps districts promote safe workplaces and on-the-job injury reduction.
