Middle schoolers make donations to food bank
DonationHaller and Post middle school students donated 30 pounds of food and gave $1,138 to the Arlington Community Food Bank on Dec. 17.

The students are part of the FCA club at Haller. They organized a Christmas dinner for 120 people that included a meal, student-generated play and other entertainment. The students collected canned food and money during the event for the food bank.

“This event was completely organized by the students,” said FCA advisor Rachel Harrington. “They really wanted to serve others in their community.”

“It’s really satisfying to help others and do things for them,” said Haller sixth grader Wade Bayha.

Post eighth grader Savannah Reece shared, “I love seeing everyone come together for a good cause.”

Every donation helps. Since COVID, the number of individuals with food insecurity in the community has increased to 100,000. Kent Prairie Elementary recently donated over 1,000 pounds of food to the food bank.

“We partner with the school district to fill the gaps for when students aren’t in school,” said Barb Tolbert, Arlington Community Food Bank Director of Development. “Our ‘Meals Til Monday’ program fills this role. We want to make sure that no child goes to bed hungry.”
