
Eight outstanding middle and high school students from the Arlington, Darrington and Lakewood School Districts were recognized April 24 by the Rotary Club of Arlington for making a difference in their respective schools. The Rotarians wanted to recognize students who stand out in different ways in their schools. The Rotary Club also donated $100 to an organization or charity of the student’s choice.
Arlington High School’s Laila Anderson enters class every day enthusiastic about learning and life. “She elevates lessons by asking thoughtful questions and sharing insightful connections,” said Arlington High School English Teacher Becca Harkavy. Laila’s $100 contribution is being made to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline.
Eleventh grader from Darrington High School, Bethany Solomon, is a dedicated and hardworking student who balances academics and athletics with incredible determination. “Bethany’s ability to manage her academics while staying involved in athletics speaks to her dedication and perseverance,” said Darrington Teacher on Special Assignment Shawna Brown. Bethany’s $100 contribution is being made to Haven-Jjungo.
Kostya Nevinglovskyi from Lakewood High School is nice to everyone at Lakewood High School. “Kostya seems to have a kind word or smile for everyone and has always gone above and beyond in the classroom to include others and make them feel welcome,” said Lakewood High School Principal Jeanette Grisham. Kostya’s $100 contribution is being made to Lakewood High School.
Madyson Van Beek, 11th grader at Weston High School, has blossomed into a confident leader on campus. “Her remarkable growth is reflected in her achievements as an equestrian enthusiast active in the Snohomish County 4-H Club, where she continues to excel and inspire,” said Weston Teacher John Pedak. Madyson’s $100 contribution is being made to Snohomish County 4H.
Eighth grader Robbie Torrey from Haller Middle School is a student who demands excellence of himself. “He has stood out as a leader and an individual who values the art of serving since he came to Haller in 6th grade,” said Haller Middle School Principal Brooke Howell. Robbie’s $100 contribution is being made to Stilly Valley Little League.
Lakewood Middle School’s Joshua Merryweather is thoughtful and responsible. “Josh’s integrity, kindness and an unwavering positive attitude make him a role model and leader for his peers,” said Lakewood Middle School PE Teacher Candace Skaugrud. Josh’s $100 contribution is being made to the North Lakewood Instrumental Music Boosters Organization.
Post Middle School’s Aleah Burnett participates in leadership class, has been an outstanding leader, and makes an effort to interact with all students in a positive and kind way. “She is the kind of student that makes Post a better place,” said Post Student Leadership and Character Teacher Chelsea Hussey. Aleah’s $100 contribution is being made to Rock Creek Church.
Alyssa Hart, an eighth grader at the Stillaguamish Valley Learning Center, is a motivated and hardworking individual who consistently excels in her studies. “She exemplifies the qualities of an exceptional student through her dedication to academics, ability to balance multiple commitments, and kindness to everyone around her,” said Stillaguamish Valley Learning Center Math Teacher Rachel Manza. Alyssa’s $100 contribution is being made to the NOAH Center.
