Severe Weather Information
Severe weather or other emergencies may cause changes to the school day. When this happens, schools may need to close, start late or dismiss early. Plan in advance for such emergencies. Please ensure that your child’s school has your family’s current emergency contact information.Winter image

We understand that decisions about school schedules and bus route changes have an impact on our families. We appreciate your patience during these situations. While we know that our students and families are best served when we are open, our main concern is the safety of our students and staff. Typically, decisions regarding schedule changes are made in the early morning before school. This allows for the most current weather information to factor into the decision. This information is generally posted by 5:30 a.m.

Closures or delays

When it is necessary to delay or close school due to extreme weather conditions or other unusual circumstances, announcements will be made on local radio and TV stations early in the morning through the FlashAlert Newswire notification system (see below for additional information on FlashAlert and how to register for these notifications). This information will also be posted on the district website and social media sites. You will not receive a SchoolMessenger message from the school or district. Please do not call the school office.

Mid-day closures
If a school closure needs take place once students are at school, parents will be notified through the SchoolMessenger notification system. The district website, social media sites and FlashAlert will also be updated with this information.

Arlington Public Schools uses FlashAlert Newswire to alert the media and community about school delays and closures. Parents, staff and community members can sign up for these notifications for free by going to this link:
